#DisinfoReview: Keywords of Disinformation: Genocide, Nazi – and the World Cup

What could genocide and Nazis possibly have in common with the 2018 FIFA World Cup? Nothing would be the most obvious answer. But for the pro-Kremlin disinformation campaigners all these three topics serve as sources of inspiration.

This week, it was all about creating a smokescreen around one of the most important frontlines: Ukraine. As we have seen before, the increased violence in Donbas – like recently - is preceded and accompanied by an intensified disinformation campaign in pro-Kremlin media.

Symposium: The Federal Arbitration Act and the National Labor Relations Act are two ships that pass in the night

Although the Supreme Court’s decision today in Epic Systems Corp. v. Lewis was a close one (5-4), the result was not surprising, in light of the court’s recent decisions establishing the primacy of the Federal Arbitration Act over other, potentially conflicting federal statutes.  At issue was whether the FAA’s mandate to enforce arbitration agreements according to their terms was displaced by Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act, which grants employees “the right … to engage in other concerted activities for … mutual aid or protection.”  In particular, the employment agreements in these three consolidated cases all required the employees to arbitrate their work-related disputes on an individual basis only.  So the question was whether the NLRA’s protection of “other concerted activities” created a substantive right to pursue group legal action that invalidated the agreements, by displacing the FAA’s mandate to enforce class and collective action waivers in arbitration agreements.

South Carolina Pregnancy Accommodations Act

The South Carolina Pregnancy Accommodations Act, found here, was signed into law on Friday, May 18, 2018. The Act amends the South Carolina Human Affairs Law. In passing the legislation, the General Assembly stated,
It is the intent of the General Assembly by this act to combat pregnancy discrimination, promote public health, and ensure full and equal participation for women in the labor force by requiring employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees for medical needs arising from pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. Current workplace laws are inadequate to protect pregnant women from being forced out or fired when they need a simple, reasonable accommodation in order to stay on the job. Many pregnant women are single mothers or the primary breadwinners for their families; if they lose their jobs then the whole family will suffer. This is not an outcome that families can afford in today’s difficult economy.

Ukraine has its own way to God and it is not through Moscow - President on giving the Tomos to the Ukrainian church

"Bykivnia - this land, this forest, where, for several years, the Soviets have been burying innocent people in the fraternal graves. This land is a silent witness of the Great Terror," President Poroshenko said during a speech at the ceremony commemorating the victims of political repressions.
Petro Poroshenko says that, according to historians, it is probably somewhere here, among the tens of thousands of victims, the body of Metropolitan Vasyl Lypkivsky rests. "I hope that somewhere in heaven, the lord’s soul, who put the issue of autocephaly on the agenda one hundred years ago, hears our prayers to God about giving the Tomos to an independent, autocephalous, Orthodox and, most importantly, Ukrainian church," he said.
